Power
May 30, 2023Our animals are powerful. Not “I can pull you out of tree trunk” powerful, although there are probably some RinTinTin’s out there who could grab you by the shirt collar, give a mighty heave, and save your life, but animals who have energetic “signatures” that can help us in our journey through life.
Here’s an example. My Power Animal is Cougar (or Mountain Lion, for those of you who don’t live in the Pacific Northwest). Cougar’s “super energy power” is Leadership.
I am the last person on earth who wants to lead - and at the same time it’s hard for me to follow. So I end up going in a lot of circles and not getting much done. Cougar nudges me to take action. She pants on the back of my neck, which is pretty annoying, and I move forward. Over time, I’ve learned to depend on her quiet confidence and strong nature to help me lead when I’d really rather just curl up on the couch with a good book.
I also tend to be (believe it or not) kind of serious. Rules must be followed! My way is the way it should be done! Ask my husband. I do not smile when Cougar and I are hatching a plan of action.
So along came Raven to be my second Power Animal. Raven loves jokes and a good time, and is also quite magical, so he whispers in my ear and lets me know that fun and whimsy are good things, too, and should be used in abundance along with all that seriousness. Who wants a leader who’s grim? Not me. So why be that way? Let’s make it fun. And if the rules don’t always get followed (who said the rule is that Ravens must fly across roads? I’m walkin’, and I’m going to swish my tail feathers back and forth while I do it and make you laugh), that’s okay. Stuff gets done, and instead of it being a chore it’s a joy.
Imagine what I would be like without my Power Animals to help me along. Well, maybe you shouldn’t because I don’t want you running screaming from the room.
So how does one find out who their Power Animal is? Ahhhh, that is the question, and it’s actually quite simple.
You can read a book. You can pay attention to who tends to show up in your life on a regular basis, some animal that you just can’t stop thinking about.
Here’s a hint - power animals are typically not domestic animals. So Dog, Cat - they’re probably not your Power Animal. However, Wolf is (like a dog, but wild). And Cougar (like a cat, but way bigger and definitely wild).
You can also attend the class I’m doing on finding your Power Animal. It will be on Zoom, with a limited number of attendees so there can be some individual attention, and it’s on June 14 at 7pm Mountain Time. 90 minutes of fun, whimsy, information, and a cool process we’ll go through so you can meet your very own Power Animal and start to build a relationship.

Meanwhile, find a book (Ted Andrews’ “Spirit Animals” is a good one), and start paying attention to who shows up for you when you least expect it.
Your Power Animal is cool, and like the angels, is waiting for you to say “hi” and open the door to its help.
