My Not So Little Pony

Pony, Human and Raven

I think I may have mentioned we have a Fell pony again.

Fell ponies are native to the UK, and are hardy beings. They are cute, smart, can be snarky or sassy, and love people. If you want to know more about Fell Ponies, you can click on this link: https://www.fellponysociety.org.uk/

Our pony, Williowtrail Liberty, was born on July 4 14 years ago. She calls herself Willa. She’s trained to ride. Haven’t gotten on her yet, but we have played with the saddle. All things in good time.

O=Obstacle - and she looks so pretty in her saddle

This year the Fell Pony Society did a challenge for all its members. You and your pony (or ponies) have to spend 25 miles riding, leading, or otherwise interacting with one another, AND you get to take photos of you and your pony and something that signifies a letter of the phrase REGIONAL GROUPS - these groups are the lifeblood of the Fell Pony Society, helping people with ponies gather and get to know one another.

So Willa and I finally finished the photos!! Here’s what we came up with:

R = Raven; E = EggCarton; G = Garage; I = Ignitor; O = Owl (stuffed, not real); N = Napkin; A = AussieAmy; L = Lilacs

G = Gate; R = RoundPen; O = Obstacle; U = Umbrella; P = PineTree; S = Subaru

We’ve so far spent 2-1/2 miles on the other part of the challenge. We have until October 31, probably sooner because I need to mail the results in. I don’t think we’re going to make the whole 25 miles, but I’m ever hopeful.

Willa is snarky, sassy, and cooperative. I only had her about a week when I asked her to walk into our garage for a photo, and she happily complied.

Willa in the G=Garage. I think my face says it all.

I love this pony! She’s big enough for me to ride (13.2), but small enough that it doesn’t look like a long way to the ground. My kind of equine!

She hasn’t formally decided to coach, which is totally her choice. One day, though, we had her and LiLi in the barn for a grooming session with some clients, and one of the clients ended up doing a big piece of work. LiLi stepped right up while Willa stayed on the other side of the fence. But before it was done, she was right up against the fence, helping LiLi do the work and supporting the human. She’s a closet coach.

Keep your fingers crossed that we get in a few more miles before the deadline!
